The Self Examiner

Sharing is very important to us at Cafe Gratitude. This blog is our means of connecting with you, our community through sharing what's happening with us and creating a conversation around the many facets of this community.

This is one of my favorite snacks – for any time of day. It's inspired by Cafe Gratitude's “I Am Super” (dark chocolate nuggets), but my version is even more simple. These are a great energy boost and quite tasty!

I offer ratios instead of measurements so you can make whatever amount you want! I usually use ½ cup to equal one part, which makes about 20 balls.

  1. 1 part maca powder
  2. 1 part raw cacao powder
  3. a pinch of salt
  4. Stir these dry ingredients.
  5. Add 2 parts raw almond butter.
  6. Add a dash of vanilla.
  7. Stir it all together. If needed add a bit of water (about ½ a part, or less).
  8. Roll into balls and store in the refrigerator. Enjoy!

Dusting of Mesquite Powder
written by Sundee , August 04, 2011

I made a dozen of the Chocolate Almond Butter Maca Balls today and they were so delicious and super easy to make. In the end I decided to dip half the balls into mesquite powder. Not only were they as beautiful as any truffle I've ever seen, but the dusting created a slightly sweeter flavor. It's even more satisfying to know something so decadent is actually good for you as well! Thanks for the recipe!

Seems like it should work.

It seems like carob would work. It will taste different, of course. Let me know once you try it. smilies/smiley.gif
