Reviews of Cafe Gratitude

SFgate

I confess to having had what Herbert Spencer would have called "contempt prior to investigation" about the word "vegan," the concept of veganism and vegans themselves. Vegans, I figured, were people who were too snotty to be vegetarians.  But then I heard about a vegan restaurant that, for several non-food- related reasons, was too good to pass up. It's called the Gratitude Cafe.  [read more]

Café Gratitude gives vegans a good name … they have a sense of humor after all … I hope. Jon Carroll of the SF Chronicle said it best in one of the earliest reports about Café Gratitude: "Vegans, I figured, were people who were too snotty to be vegetarians." Not that Oakland's Manzanita doesn't have good food … it's just not fun and the people look unhappy to be eating the way they are eating … anything but grateful. Think pilgrims, but without the sunny attitude.  Café Gratitude is endlessly entertaining; it even has game cards on the table. [read more]

Sally Around the Bay

Last week one of my favorite Twitter friends Lissa Rankin was talking about Café Gratitude (and making me hungry for some yummy raw food). I knew Lissa would have great things to say about Café Gratitude so I asked her if she would consider writing a guest blog post for me. Turns out she had already blogged about Café Gratitude on her blog Owning Pink but she told me to feel free to use the blog post here. [read more]

The Raw Seed

How can't I be grateful for San Francisco, California when it hosts one of the most amazing raw restaurants I have experienced, Café Gratitude. I have heard amazing things about this raw restaurant and even better things about their layered cakes. Upon purchasing a raw dessert recipe book Sweet Gratitude from Café Gratitude's website a few months back, I was even more sold on their raw creations. I was so excited when I realized San Francisco was on our way to Raw Union. [read more]

The Ax Files

Having long intended to visit it, it is serendipitous to find Café Gratitude near my friend Beau’s art studio down the street, at 20th and Harrison. I feel, crossing the threshold, that I have entered a sort of energy vortex, a relaxed, nourishing, appreciative, collaborative energy. Beau warns me, though, that you can’t just walk in to Café Gratitude. You will most likely be greeted with the “question of the day,” and you’ll find that servers and staff may also act as personal spiritual advisors. [read more]

Rants and Raves of a New Age Chick

Located in a little hideaway at the Mission District of San Francisco, Café Gratitude is a cozy, New Age, live food restaurant where they serve all Vegan, all Oraganic, mostly Raw nourishment for your body, your soul and your mind. From the moment I stepped into this place I knew I was going to be speechless. So I started clicking pictures... loads of them! [read more]

Don't (White) Sugar Coat It

I had a wonderful first half of spring break in Sunny California at with my sister, her family and one of my best friends from home! We missed a bout of rainy weather they had been having, and the sun was shining the entire time. I love the San Francisco Bay Area and can definitely see myself living there after school. It’s so progressive and the availability of fresh, local, organic produce for the majority of the year is so uplifting! We ate delicious food and went on beautiful runs and walks. [read more]

Albion Cooks

This delicious vegan recipe for Coconut Ceviche is from the I Am Gratefulcookbook of Café Gratitude, raw vegan restaurants located in San Francisco, San Rafael, Berkeley, and Healdsburg. I adapted the recipe to include agave nectar and avocado, and it was really amazing. [read more]

Vegan Family Style

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting Jess from Café Gratitude. She was handing out samples at the Raw Fest that was Whole Foods in Sacramento, CA. I was also there to meet her to pick up raw ice cream samples to review- but that review is for another day. I sampled a cookie while I was there- the lemon one (pictured below) and it was quite tastey. [read more]

In April I got meet up with one of the employees of Café Gratitude at Whole Foods Market in Sacramento. WF's was hosting a Raw Food event. Café Gratitude had already sent me some cookies and granola (that was amazing- you can order HERE). I was there to pick up some ice cream! Raw vegan ice cream to be exact. [read more]
